Our Commitment

Acknowledgement of Country

An Acknowledgement of Country is a respectful and meaningful statement that recognises the First Peoples of Australia as the Traditional Custodians of this land.

Colliq acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. We recognise that sovereignty was never ceded, and that this land always was, and always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.

Why this matters to us

Colliq is a platform built to serve Australian communities — Not-For-Profits, community organisations, and small enterprises that form the fabric of this country. We operate on land that has been cared for by First Nations peoples for tens of thousands of years.

This acknowledgement is not performative. It reflects our genuine belief that recognising the ongoing sovereignty, culture, and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to this land is both a moral responsibility and a foundation for how we do business.

Sovereignty was never ceded. This is not merely a statement — it is a truth that informs how we think about the communities we serve and the land on which we operate.

What an Acknowledgement of Country is

An Acknowledgement of Country is a statement that shows respect for the Traditional Custodians of the land on which an event or gathering is taking place — or, in our case, on which a business operates and serves its community.

It is distinct from a Welcome to Country, which is a formal ceremony performed only by Traditional Custodians of the specific land. Anyone can offer an Acknowledgement of Country — it is a sign of respect and an important part of reconciliation in Australia.

First Nations peoples in Australia

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Peoples of Australia, with the oldest continuous cultures on earth — spanning more than 65,000 years. There are hundreds of distinct language groups and nations across the continent, each with their own laws, customs, stories, and deep relationships with Country.

We encourage everyone who uses Colliq to learn more about the Traditional Custodians of the specific Country they live and work on. Resources such as the AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia and Reconciliation Australia are excellent starting points.
